Mason Greenwood: The Footballer Who Fought His Way Back From a Nightmare

Mason Greenwood first rose to prominence in front of football fans around the world with Manchester United. He quickly became a player the club could rely on, producing some impressive performances in a Manchester United shirt.

With his pace on the wings, powerful long-range shooting and excellent dribbling ability, Greenwood was a young attacker capable of repeatedly causing problems for opposition defenses. His performances were so impressive that many fans even began comparing him to a young Ruud van Nistelrooy.

However, Greenwood’s football career took a dramatic downturn following allegations of physical abuse involving his partner. As a result, he was eventually forced to leave the Manchester United squad, the club he had loved and represented since his youth.

Because of his own actions and the situation surrounding him, Greenwood found himself in a position where his professional football career could have come to an end.

The club that gave Greenwood the opportunity to rebuild his career was Getafe. During his time in Spain, Greenwood managed to rediscover his best form. In one season with Getafe, he scored 10 goals and provided six assists.

After rediscovering his confidence and form, Greenwood earned a move to French Ligue 1 side Marseille.

Away from football, Greenwood also managed to rebuild his relationship with his partner and became a father. He has since been able to enjoy a happier family life.

When Marseille initially signed Greenwood, the decision was met with significant criticism from sections of the club's fanbase because of the allegations surrounding his past. However, Greenwood was able to quiet much of the criticism through his performances on the pitch.

At Marseille, he produced performances that were even better than those he had shown during his time in La Liga. Greenwood scored 21 goals for Marseille during the season, finishing among the top scorers in Ligue 1.

Greenwood and Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé both finished with 21 goals. However, under Ligue 1's rules, the player who scored fewer penalties wins the Golden Boot when players are tied on goals. As a result, Dembélé was awarded the Ligue 1 Golden Boot.

Despite missing out on the Golden Boot, Greenwood made history at Marseille by becoming the player to score the most goals in his debut season in the club's history.

Marseille finished second behind Paris Saint-Germain and secured qualification for the following season's UEFA Champions League. Greenwood's goals played a hugely important role in Marseille's successful campaign to secure Champions League football.

And so, from a point where his football career appeared to be in danger of ending, Mason Greenwood managed to rediscover his best form and rebuild his career.
