Cole Palmer: The Player Who Can Change the Course of a Match

Chelsea fans have always had certain players they hold especially close to their hearts. Didier Drogba, one of the greatest strikers in the club's history; midfield generals such as Frank Lampard and N'Golo Kanté; and the defensive rock John Terry are just a few examples.

Eden Hazard is another player Chelsea supporters will never forget. He gave the best years of his career to Chelsea and consistently displayed his extraordinary ability.

Part of that decline could be attributed to tactical issues, but Palmer's confidence also appeared to decrease, which affected his overall performances.

However, when Chelsea entered a crucial stage of the season and had to fight intensely for Champions League qualification, Palmer once again began showing the determination, energy and desire that had made him so important to the team.

Chelsea's Conference League triumph can also be regarded as a trophy in which Palmer played a decisive role — and one that became the first major trophy won under the club's current ownership.

In the Conference League final, Chelsea were struggling and their overall performance had deteriorated. But Palmer continued to cause problems for the opposition throughout the match with his composure, elegant dribbling, one-on-one ability and high-quality deliveries.

His individual brilliance helped change the momentum of the final and ultimately contributed to Chelsea lifting the Conference League trophy.

Players who can genuinely change the outcome of an entire match are extremely rare.

Palmer also proved his doubters wrong. Those who had previously dismissed him as a “flash in the pan” were shown that Cole Palmer was far more than that.

He proved that his quality was not temporary — he was a player capable of changing the course of a game when Chelsea needed him most.
