Rodrygo: Is Real Madrid’s No. 11 an Overlooked Star?

Real Madrid are one of the most successful clubs in European football and have always been home to some of the world’s finest players. Whenever people discuss the current Real Madrid side, the names Kylian Mbappé, Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior are often mentioned again and again. However, Rodrygo is frequently left out of the conversation.

Rodrygo is a player who gives everything for the team and regularly steps up when Real Madrid need him most. Despite his importance, he has never received quite the same level of attention as some of the club’s other superstars.

His contribution to Real Madrid has been no less significant than that of fellow stars such as Bellingham, Mbappé and Vinícius. Rodrygo is not only a selfless team player but also a young footballer who continues to work hard and improve.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti once praised Rodrygo for his attitude, saying that the Brazilian had never complained about being left on the bench. Whenever he gets the opportunity to play, Rodrygo gives his all for the team. Even when he is not included in the starting line-up, he does not create problems or complain about his role.

Despite delivering impressive performances and helping Real Madrid win the Champions League, Rodrygo was not even included among the Ballon d’Or nominees. He has produced important performances and rescued his team on numerous occasions, yet he has often been overlooked by fans when it comes to recognition and praise.

In many ways, Rodrygo resembles Gareth Bale, who was once part of Real Madrid’s fearsome attacking trio known as BBC — Bale, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo. Both players made important contributions to the team, delivered in crucial moments and helped Real Madrid achieve major success. Yet neither has always received the level of appreciation their performances deserved. They are two examples of players whose contributions have sometimes been overshadowed by the club’s bigger stars.

Before joining Real Madrid, Rodrygo had already received an offer from Barcelona. However, he waited for Real Madrid to make their move, and when the club finally presented its offer, he accepted it immediately.

Rodrygo’s playing ability, mentality, dedication and affection for the club are not inferior to those of his more celebrated teammates. He is willing to work hard, sacrifice for the team and contribute whenever he is needed. Yet the recognition and praise he receives still seem to fall short of what other Real Madrid superstars enjoy.

So, what do you think? Is Rodrygo an underrated player who deserves more recognition, or is the attention given to Mbappé, Bellingham and Vinícius understandable?
