The Little-Known Story Behind ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong

When we talk about ONE Championship, it is hard to find anyone around the world who has never heard of it. ONE Championship has become one of the most successful and popular combat sports organizations in the world. However, building ONE Championship was far from easy.

The man behind ONE Championship, CEO and founder Chatri Sityodtong, built the organization after overcoming countless difficulties and challenges throughout his life.

Chatri Sityodtong was born in Thailand on May 30, 1971. His father was a successful businessman, and Chatri grew up in a financially comfortable family.

However, Chatri was not particularly interested in academics when he was young and was more involved in fights and physical activities. When Chatri was nine years old, his father took him to watch a Muay Thai event. From that moment, Muay Thai became deeply rooted in Chatri's heart.

Chatri then asked his parents for permission to learn Muay Thai. From the age of nine until he was 20, he devoted himself almost entirely to learning and practicing the art of Muay Thai.

However, his family's financial situation gradually began to deteriorate. During the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, many businessmen went bankrupt, and Chatri's father's business was among those that collapsed.

During that difficult period, Chatri's father left the family, leaving Chatri and his mother behind. For Chatri, who had grown up in a wealthy family, this became one of the most difficult periods of his life.

At his mother's request, Chatri eventually attended Harvard Business School, despite the financial difficulties his family was facing, and ultimately earned his MBA.

His years at Harvard were extremely difficult for his family. After graduating, Chatri received job offers that could have earned him millions of dollars, but he turned them down. Instead, he founded a software company with his friend.

The company grew rapidly within a short period of time. Eventually, they sold the successful software company and divided the profits. Chatri then moved to Wall Street, where he worked as a hedge fund manager.

However, Chatri had always dreamed of building a business connected to the martial art that had been part of his life since childhood. Because of that dream, he eventually decided to invest around 80 percent of his income into establishing ONE Championship in 2011.

At that time, UFC was already one of the biggest combat sports organizations in the United States and had captured a huge American audience.

Chatri, however, decided to build his organization in Asia, the region widely regarded as the birthplace and home of many traditional martial arts.

During the first three years after its establishment, ONE Championship suffered continuous financial losses. At one point, Chatri even considered selling the company at a loss.

However, his mother persuaded him not to give up. Because of her encouragement, Chatri decided to keep ONE Championship and continue working toward making it successful.

Since the establishment of ONE Championship in 2011, Chatri has continued to work relentlessly without giving up. Eventually, he succeeded in building ONE Championship into one of the most recognizable and popular combat sports organizations in the world.

His wealth and business success have also grown tremendously over the years.
